What is a sort code?
A sort code is a six digit number used to identify UK banks. The first two numbers of the sort code typically identify the bank (for example, most HSBC sort codes start with ’40’), the proceeding 4 digits will identify which specific branch that is. When making domestic transfers, you will typically need a sort code as well as an 8 digit account number to implement the transaction. Always double check all aspects of any transaction with your bank – do not rely on this website alone to verify sort codes.
How can I get my bank sort code?
Bank sort codes are often displayed at the bottom of your debit or credit card. Alternatively, it will often be printed on your chequebook, bank statements, or other types of correspondence with your bank.
Where do you find a sort code on a debit card?
On debit cards, sort codes are often displayed underneath the expiry date and to the right of your account number. The six digit code is often hyphenated (in segments of 2 digits) and is placed above the name on your card.
